A three-dimensional printer, print living tissue

news_13413_1_MDThree-dimensional printers have started to appear a few years ago. They are capable of printing multi-layer structure, to form complex three-dimensional shape. Now James Yoo (James Yoo) from the Institute for Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University in North Carolina claims that they can do the same with living cells.

It uses a standard inkjet printing mechanism, which lets you create multi-layered structure of the viable cells that can subsequently combined into complex three-dimensional shape. The scientist claims that the data structure may include different types of cells, as well as conventional printers use inks of different colors. Among other things, the system can be implemented in the printing ink in order to facilitate observation of the subsequent development of organic matter. The developer says that the printer will soon acquire the ability to produce skin, bone, or nerve tissue - a technology has great potential.
